Rome Fashion Week

Neeta Lulla and Pria Kataria Puri showcased their autumn winter collection at Rome Fashion Week

July 9-13, 2007

Noted designers, Neeta Lulla and Pria K Puri have been invited to showcase their Autumn-winter collection at the Rome fashion week this July. The designers have been selected after LFW Advisory Board’s decision by Alta Roma, the institution that promotes Rome’s culture on the international fashion scene.

Obviously, such a selection wouldn’t have been figured if these designers hadn’t been well received with their work at the LFW Autumn-winter 2007. Says Pria K Puri, designer and winner of Bharat Yuv Ratna and Bharat Vikas awards for designing women’s wear, “My business has tripled since LFW. I had orders from various Indian and five international buyers – two of them from Middle east; I have also started retailing at stores like Amara, Aza and Kimaya. And I’m in talks with an agent in Paris!” While Pria can’t stop gushing about her achievements, Neeta is much sober in her acceptance. She says, “It felt really good that my collection was very received and the response was brilliant. With just my first fashion week ever, being invited to showcase in Rome is quite a high!”

So, what are their collections going to be about? Both designers will be presenting their LFW collections but with a little more winter-appropriate wear. “For Indian audiences, with Turkish Delights, I concentrated more on autumn, than on winter. Though I’ll be taking a few outfits from my LFW collection, I’ll be adding a few more outfits that will befit the winter expectations in Europe,” says Pria. Neeta seconds this, “My collection will be an extension of the LFW Female infanticide collection. Since the concept was well received and of course, it is really close to my heart, I want to take it forward to Rome. I’ll be adding a few outfits to the collection.”

While this isn’t the first time that Indian designers are going to Rome, this is definitely going to be one thing to look out for.

Neeta Lulla and Pria Kataria Puri showcased their autumn winter collection at Rome Fashion Week scheduled from July 9-13, 2007 in Rome. The designers are selected based on the decision made by the Lakme Fashion Week [LFW] Advisory Board, enabling Lakme Fashion Week to integrate India into the global fashion world.

Pria Kataria Puri will be showcasing an extension of her LFW collection. "At LFW, I showcased more of fall, and less winter. There were light fabrics and no woolens or velvets. In Rome, the concentration would be on winter wear. There will be a lot of cocktail dresses, jackets and coats as winter in Europe is synonymous with Christmas and New Year festivities. I used some interesting prints in my 'Turkish Delight' collection at LFW; I plan to carry that forward into this collection with some new styling elements," she reveals. "My expectations from Rome Fashion Week are business and exposure. I do not know if it will generate immediate business or take its time but the collection would create an awareness of our product."

Neeta Lulla plans to showcase her fall winter collection in Rome. Playing with prints from Rajasthan and Punjab, color flirts with cut and design. The garments bear an Indian influence aesthetically proven with the fabrics etched in carvings [cutwork, quilting, colors and embroidery] while the silhouettes give it a global appeal. "It is a good platform to be seen at various fashion weeks, especially on international shores. LFW plays a pivotal role in taking Indian designers to international markets; indeed a commendable effort", she enthuses.

Announcing their participation, Anil Chopra, VP Lakme Lever said, "The global cross-over with LFW and Alta Roma is an initiative towards providing an attractive platform for designers. As part of this initiative, Italian designer Giovanni Cavagna showcased his winter collection at LFW last season." According to Consuelo Aranyi, Alta Roma, "Alta Roma plays an important role in promoting the "Made in Italy" brand world over. With this exchange program, Italy and India will witness an excellent exchange of talent and creativity."

LFW witnessed the first of its exchange program with Prêt a Porter, where as part of this fashionable business association, designers from Parisian fashion house Leonard Paris and French designer Nathalie Garcon showcased on the runways of LFW Spring Summer 2007. As a part of this exchange program, Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Wendell Rodricks will present on the runways of PAPP in September 2007.
