The Grunge Begum collection by Suhani Pittie>The British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award programme

Showcasing India’s Creativity to UK Royalty

At an exclusive event organised for Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Earl of Wessex at their recent visit to Jodhpur, the British Council showcased some of India’s promising creative designers. Suhani Pittie, one of the designers selected by the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award programme, put up a spectacular show at the royal palace, in the presence of the UK royalty and the Maharajah and Maharani of Jodhpur and invited guests.

The Grunge Begum collection by Suhani Pittie reflected the free spirited traditionalist, who belongs in a conventional environment but with a wandering mind. She wears her values like a badge but strings them in her own textures. Old coins, "kasalperu", temple jewellery, traditional jhumkas came free from their traditional canvases and were infused with exposed zippers, steel, copper silver and chains. Their Royal Highnesses acclaimed the design skills of the designer and the creative efforts being made in the Indian fashion industry.

“The event was one of the highlights of my career. It was a privilege to have showcased to such an erudite audience and to interact with their Royal Highnesses. I am eternally grateful to the British Council for having provided me with this rare and honourable opportunity”, says Suhani.

The British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award programme, aims to develop a powerful professional network between creative entrepreneurs in India, UK and internationally. It is an organized and tangible platform to acknowledge India’s creative entrepreneurial talent. A network that inspires and facilitates the sharing of best practices, builds skills, provides access to resources and market, offers professional development opportunities, mentoring, and increases opportunities for business. Till date 763 entrepreneurs have been through the award programme and there are numerous successes that highlight the collaborative links that the programme has been able to achieve.

The other designers to showcase in Jodhpur include Sanjay Garg (Raw Mango), Samant Chauhan (Samant Chauhan) and Nandita Atal Bose (Burnt Sienna).
