FASHION - The Chivas Show/Chivas Studio/Bangalore

It was a melting pot of music, art, photography and fashion at the Chivas Fashion Studio that took place at the ITC Gardenia on December 4 and 5. Besides Prabuddha Dasgupta’s superlative photographs and KS Radhakrishnan’s installation that was on display at the venue on both days, the event saw designers Surily Goel and Wendell Rodricks wow Bangaloreans with their creations on day one. But before that, the Maske Trio from Australia (comprising Oz beauties who let their violins do all the talking) joined Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan and Gino Banks on the drums to create what every music aficionado was impressed with. If the violins, sarods and drums pleased the ears, the Chivas Regal signature served by UK mixologist Max Warner won over the palates. Day two saw heavy-duty fashion with petite sisters Gauri and Nainika showing their breathtaking collection of evening wear. And then it was time for the Moghul of Indian fashion to do what he does best — conquer! Rohit Bal’s not just great with his designing skills, he’s also good at convincing people at the last minute. Vani Ganapathy was roped in at the eleventh hour to be his showstopper. As he took a bow in his signature style, it was time for the bubbly to flow and city folks Manjusha Maheshwari (just back from London), Leena Singh, Raj Shroff, Sheela and Krish, Prasad Bidapa, Meeru Pai, Zubair and Devdutta joined in to celebrate.

Sensual & chic and sexy & glamorous that’s how we would describe the collection showcased by Wendell Rodricks and Surily Goel respectively on Day 1. Inspiration from birds on a wing for his Collection. Graceful swoops, Plunging Dives & Fluttering Movements for a line of creative garments that are flights of fancy but anchored in reality. Layered with Feathered Strokes and Breezy Fabrics that float, the Wendell Rodricks ‘ON A WING’ collection in the designers favorite color: white.

Celebrating Chic Style in the Metallic Accents with a palette ranging from Pastels moving to Navy Blues & Blacks. Interesting Geometric Silhouettes & Drapes with Colour Blocking, Fringes & Coins. Jersey fabrics and sequence sheeting play between the ultra-feminine and understated strength stood out in Surily Goel's collection. The Feminine Collection was flirty, carefree, bubbly in vibrant colours; Candy Pink, Flamboyant Orange & Cyan Blue.

Models; Indrani Dasgupta, Nina Manuel, Pia Trivedi, and the likes walked the ramp.

Spotted; Raj Shroff, Sheela Krishnamoorthy & Krish, Anand Rao, Prasad Bidappa and Zubair in the audience.

A Resplendent show by Rohit Bal and Gauri & Nainika on Day 2 was attended by the city’s fashionistas and crème-de-la-crème. Bal’s Collection titled ‘Yasas’ inspired by the resplendent glory of India’s rich cultural heritage reflected the splendour and grandeur of the Golden Peacock, a name once India was known by, the glamour and inherent luxury that India once was a part of.

Showstopper; Bangalore socialite Vani Ganapathy

For Gauri & Nainika it was a Showcase of Intense glamour in exuberant hues & sharp dramatic shapes yet feminine. Can-Can Underskirts & Corseted Bodices, Luxurious wools & lush duchesse satins. - Collection reflected designers’ core philosophy- Understated Drama & evidently, Femininity.
