McDowell’s Signature North East Fashion Weekend

Art Forward brings North-East India’s first ever fashion extravaganza - McDowell Signature Natural Mineral Water North East Fashion Weekend, in association with Aircel. The event will be held in Guwahati at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Betkuchi between 11th – 13th August, 2010. Titled the “McDowell Signature North East Fashion Weekend”, the event will kick off with a model hunt and a designer hunt in the region. The first of its kind, this fashion weekend, will feature prêt by top Indian and local designers like Ritu Kumar, Wendell Rodericks, Rina Dhaka, Nandini Baruwa etc. Showcasing the designers’ creations will be showstoppers consisting of a mix of celebrities from Bollywood as well as other popular celebs from the North-East. Arts Forward is India’s only arts management ensemble that creates and markets brands through intelligent arts concepts.

The event will commence with a “Bold and Beautiful Model Hunt and Emerging Designer North East”. The Model Hunt will be held in Shillong, Guwahati and Dimapur from 31st July, 2010 onwards. The contest will decide on 12 chosen aspirants (8 girls and 4 boys) who will win the opportunity to walk the ramp for established designers on the three days slated for the McDowell’s Signature North East Fashion Weekend. These 12 shortlisted candidates will also vie for the final Bold & Beautiful title with the top 2 winning contestants featuring as the show stoppers.

The Emerging Designer North East contest will pick the talented, rising designers from the region, who will showcase their design vision at Signature North East Fashion Weekend. This contest will also be held at Guwahati, Shillong, and Dimapur. It presents the prospect of catapulting the budding designers to national fame via entry into the emerging designer competitions of other national fashion weeks.

Fashion weeks and exclusive fashion events are increasing in popularity among fashion enthusiasts, buyers and are becoming more acceptable on the global trade map. However, these events are mostly restricted to the metros. ‘North Week Fashion Weekend’ brings an opportunity to showcase the talent that has largely been restricted to the region so far. Our event aims to bring out the work from the North East and give it a national platform.
