Something Different:>Black Peanuts

Black peanuts are to be avoided, a lesson everyone has learned the hard way, chomping into one sight unseen. But if you're a fan of Comme des Garçons or Peanuts (capital P), you'll want every nutty piece from the strange new collaboration between the two iconic brands. Black Peanuts, as it's called, sees Charles Schulz's lovable characters transformed into figurines, sweatshirts, bags, wallets, and...an Eames chair? Yes, an Eames chair. Now that's an adult language we can understand. Available only at Dover Street Market in London and the new location in Tokyo.

MUJI's Mojo Goes On Display

To know MUJI is to love MUJI. The low-priced, logo-free brand borne of the need to clothe and feed a destitute post-war Japan, MUJI has since become an accidental international phenomenon, opening stores across Asia, Europe and North America. Long before Ikea and its promise of a blonde-wood utopia, MUJI was supplying all the stackable shelving, beige porcelain tea sets, and cardboard computer speakers the world could ever want or, more importantly, need.
Honoring its decades of service to common-sensical yet design-conscious customers, MUJI is the subject of the London Design Museum's latest exhibit, launching tomorrow, March 9. Product Fitness 80, as it's cryptically called, the exhibit highlights the best of MUJI's offering over the years, those possessing the most integrity, purest minimalism and finest monozukuri, or craftsmanship. Falling exactly one year after the Japanese earthquake, the exhibit also serves as a reminder of the dangers of materialism and over-consumption. The moral of MUJI has always been to use and enjoy the simpler, humbler things in life.

In typical MUJI mindfulness, admission is free for those with a store receipt.

Zandra Rhodes - The Legend

The new generation may not be familiar with the work of the legendary British designer Zandra Rhodes. At best, they might remember her from her cameo appearance in Absolutely Fabulous ("Hi Zandra! It's me, Patsy. Patsy Stone").
And yet any number of pieces from her retrospective collection, which attracted industry stalwarts, could easily slip into the wardrobe of any young, fashion-loving girl of today. It was a fantastic show, unveiling one stunner after another, showing the designer's brilliant color sense, expert cutting skills,
knack for prints, and unbridled embrace of 1970s exoticism and hedonism.

From the 1970 pink printed chiffon ensemble (with the edges hand-rolled) to the lamé Elizabethan dress inspired by Lady Diana's wedding gown, through a 1985 flapper number beaded to resemble Manhattan high-rises, it was a stellar career collection unfurling before us. A few new pieces were included, too. At times, with their donut-shaped headbands and glittery, glued-on make-up (perfectly in tune with Steven Meisel's new Italian Vogue cover), the models looked like they had escaped from a Guy Bourdin shoot.

As Zandra herself came out to take a bow, her hot-pink hair cut into a bob, the audience was on its feet, giving her a well-deserved standing ovation.

Khwaja-Autumn Winter 2012 by Vaishali Shadangule

Khwaja is the word which is used by all the Sufi- saints and peer-fakeer to address the divine power. They have devoted their entire life to spread the message of the ultimate master, to the societies across the nations. They never limit themselves to any defined path to enlighten others, what they did became the path for their followers. They were above the worries of survival and left themselves on the mercy of their master. These enlightened souls wanted to merge themselves into the supreme power, and in the spiritual journey of their life, they found the power within.

I am fascinated by this philosophy and want to pay my tribute to these true and pure spirit of denying of being and becoming nobody.

In the intuitive process of presenting this thought into a collection, I have used hand woven organic cotton to keep the purity of thought and the embellishment of beads are weaved into the fabric to interpret the thought into the garment.

I have mainly used black and white color to show two different sides of a world and have tried to achieve different silhouettes along with the draping to show the variety of the concept.

The fabric that has been used is cotton that has a soft feel as well as it is flowy. Keeping in mind this element of the fabric, I have used some draping techniques to create unconventional silhouettes. Some of the garments also portray strong construction with woven textures.

VAISHALI. S is a fashion label by Vaishali Shadangule.

Graduating in science, she moved to Mumbai to pursue her dreams of being a fashion designer. The brand that bears her name is a clothing line that encompasses contemporary and traditional Indian wear, Indo-western and western wear. The label stands for a modern attitude, comfort and innovative style stemming from a wealth of ideas that blends the modern with the vastness of Indian textiles. She debuts at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week this season with her autumn winter 2012 line that amalgamates art and fashion.

Luigi Borbone>2012-SS-White, White Collection

Luigi Borbone is a young Roman Couturier who, for the first time, has been invited to show at AltaRoma AltaModa.  For his 2012 Spring/Summer Collection, Luigi Borbone was inspired by the isolated, glacial landscapes depicted in the works of the Norwegian painter Odd Nerdrum.

“A distant land, not only geographically, Scandinavia is a place of striking contradictions and stark contrasts which” - affirms Luigi Borbone - "dominated by the breathtaking beauty of nature’s savagery and mercilessness, becomes the key element in every intellectual adventure of Scandinavian artists in representing the mystery that is life".

Luigi Borbone has created a monochrome collection. Shades of dazzling white - bright, pearly and iridescent - accentuate the expression of the spirits and themes of the Nordic lands; lands imbued with the anxieties typical of those restless starry souls, ever thirsty for sun, full of death and yet, at the same time, so attached to life.

Research into materials is the key to this collection: the designer, Luigi Borbone, marrying the ethos of vegan culture, has produced a collection using eco-friendly fabrics and materials which fully respect nature and animals.

The precious fabrics of high fashion are given a new slant with the experimental technology of the latest generation. Latex treated with Swarovski crystals made, to the specifications of Luigi Borbone, by the master craftsmen of Transfermania International in Rome, lab-produced Mikado silk fixed with Swarovski crystal powder, embossed linen, organza in linen and silk and duchess satin silk dipped in special gold-dust flecked resin to make it waterproof.

The creations of Luigi Borbone place emphasis on the theme of "disquieting and inversion”. For the day Tuxedos, stiff shirts, voluminous high-waisted trousers and dresses which play on three dimensionality, whilst evening wear sees dynamic abstract forms.

The accessories designed by Luigi Borbone, made from recycled plastic and enhanced with Swarovski crystals, are all unique pieces made exclusively by hand by the artists Alecci and Di Paola.

For the collection’s shoes, Luigi Borbone sought the collaboration of the Milanese designer Riccardo Rizieri who bases his creative project on unique values such as "hand made", excellent craftsmanship and respect for "green" ethics.

Kick Eyes Glasses

Kick Eyes are back and kickier than ever. We first brought you the smash-hit toy glasses by Nono Muaks—a fashion-design collective between Brussels and Beijing—last year. We rather naively assumed that lightning bolts and heart shapes were about all one could punch out of felt. But no. As it turns out, you can punch pretty much any silhouette into felt. From the new Kick Eyes collection, we present to you: cat eyes, leopard prints, diamonds and clubs, and laser beams. Because really, who wants lenses when there's laser-cut technology?

Details: 100% laser-cut industrial felt, durable and foldable, unisex, one size fits all. Dimensions: 5.75" wide, 5" deep. As always, we're happy to tweet pictures of you and your purchase.
