SFW- Singapore Fashion Week 2007

Singapore Fashion Week 2007 (SFW07) will kick-off between 12 and 21 October 2007.

SFW07 is a significant milestone as this marks its 20th annual instalment. Also being the first to be invited to join as a new member of Asia Fashion Federation (founded by China, Korea and Japan), Singapore will be hosting the annual AFF conference. As always, SFW07 will showcase a series of comprehensive fashion-related trade shows featuring the latest designers’ collections, brands/ labels from the region.

“An established entry on the world’s fashion calendar, SFW07 is THE gateway to Asia, bringing together the most established designers/ labels and renowned international buyers for the trade show here in Singapore,” says Mr Patrick Lee, Chairman of SFW07. “Streamlined and focused, we are charging ahead with the largest number of individual designer collections ever assembled together under SFW. Overall participation numbers will also swell as over 100 international delegates are expected at the annual AFF conference and seminar. The three AFF founding countries of China, Japan and Korea will also be represented by their respective top designers to showcase their collections at our gala dinner.”

To further strengthen Singapore’s position as a regional fashion hub, SFW07 is bringing together established as well as up-and-coming international, regional and local brands / labels featuring the latest offerings under one roof for the Spring / Summer 2008 season. With Singapore’s excellent connectivity and infrastructure supporting the sourcing, distribution and supply chain functions of the region’s apparel industries and connecting them to the rest of the world, this event offers exclusive business-to-business opportunities for all.
IE Singapore has been a strong supporter of Singapore Fashion Week for the past two decades and is glad that it is growing in its ability to create business opportunities for international buyers and regional designers. “As our local designers become more sophisticated and buyers become more discerning, SFW must continue to reinvent itself to stay relevant to the supply and demand needs of the global market. It needs to continually find new innovative ways of delivering on its value proposition as a fashion-trading platform. The Access Programme, launched by TaFf in 2005, is an example of finding new ways to create value. IE Singapore congratulates TaFf on the 20th year of SFW and will continue to work with the Association to bring greater market opportunities for our local designers,” says Mrs Tan Li Lin, Director, Lifestyle and Business Services, IE Singapore.

SPRING Singapore has identified manpower, technology innovation, financing and new
markets as the main drivers to sustain enterprise growth. Giving strong backing to the SFW07 under the LEAD programme, SPRING hopes to help local players build capabilities such as design, branding, product and process development, so as to gain better access to international markets. “SFW07 is an opportunity for our local designers and manufacturers to showcase their best designs and capabilities to international buyers,” said Mr Chow Tat Kong, Group Director for Enterprise Development, SPRING Singapore. “It will open up new markets and business prospects for our industry players.”

Other programmes will continue to feature Singapore and regional fashion businesses and designers at different stages of their development. These offer important assistance and useful information to budding undergraduates, fledgling new businesses and even established designers looking to expand regionally and globally.

Participants, designers and trade visitors can expect a diversified and interactive platform to maximise their exposure within and beyond their industry circle and open gateways for more business opportunities.

Ayesha Depala

Ayesha Depala

Ayesha Depala began her design career in 2002, when she launched her signature line AYESHA DEPALA under which she presents both ready-to-wear and couture.
Ayesha designs for the modern woman who appreciates style and quality. Great attention is paid to the finish of the garment. Her clothes are sexy and feminine, and there is something for everyone in her collections. Her clients range from young ladies to mature women.

Ayesha’s formal education began with a degree in Interior Design at college in New Delhi. She also attended various fashion courses at Central St Martins and The London College of Fashion to hone her skills as a clothing designer.
Ayesha’s presence in India has brought a fresh new sensibility to Indian fashion, with elegant gowns and dresses and sharp tailoring and separates. She has dressed some of the most glamourous women in Middle Eastern society and even a few stars of the big screen.

Ayesha shuttles between her homes in London, Dubai and India, enabling her to keep her finger on the pulse of the global fashion scene, and the influences of her travels are prevalent in her collections.
In a much anticipated move, September 2005 saw the launch of the Ayesha Depala brand at Saks Fifth Avenue in Dubai, the first and only Indian designer at that time to be present in this famed retail space. The exclusive line designed especially for Saks Fifth Avenue was well received and proceeded to sell out in no time. Ayesha has established herself in the Middle Eastern market, and has already become one of the most sought after and celebrated designers in the region. Ayesha also retails from Sun Motoyama in Japan, S*uce in Abu Dhabi, and plans to soon have a European flagship in London.
Besides her boutique in New Delhi, located at the Ambawata Centre, she has opened a glittering new flagship store at the prestigious Village Mall in Dubai in May.
The sumptuous space carries her ready to wear, couture and her newly established bridal line which will be an haute couture service. Ayesha’s boutiques are glamourous and elegant, yet comfortable and relaxing, making them very inviting, and your shopping experience a pleasurable one.

Ayesha has already amassed a sizeable couture client base worldwide, and her gowns can be seen adorning society women in Norway, Spain, UK and France.

Ayesha Depala is famed for her evening wear, with her use of light flowing fabrics and delicate embroidery. There is a meticulous attention to detail, and fluid, diaphanous gowns and dresses are a mainstay of her collections. The colour palettes are usually muted and soft, and the embroidery delicate, but rich. The paisley motif is always visible somewhere in her collections, albeit in a new and modern way, and the paisley has become synonymous with the Ayesha Depala brand. This fact was noted by New York publishing house PDN who is publishing the tome “ Romance With Paisley” , and Ayesha’s work will be included in the book along with the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass.

Ayesha was selected by Lacoste, alongside other prominent figures and artists from the region to design and interpret her own Lacoste shirt. This was then auctioned for the Make a Wish Foundation in November in Dubai.

Ayesha’s design philosophy is to create a product that is both exclusive and impeccably finished, yet accessible. This is a fact not lost on her clients, and her increasing popularity amongst the fashion cognoscenti is testament to that fact.

Ayesha Depala Fall-Winter 2007 Collection
Ayesha Depala presented her sublime Fall-Winter 2007 collection at the Wills India Fashion Week in New Delhi this March. Her third time at the event, Ayesha has rapidly established herself as one of the most internationally marketable and outstanding designers to show in India.

With her collections available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Sun Motoyama, S*uce, amongst others, Ayesha’s designs have proven to be universal in their appeal, impeccable in their quality, and highly sought after by discerning fashion mavens worldwide. Besides her ready to wear, the Ayesha Depala brand has also become famed for haute couture and bridal, with clients from across the globe. One of the most prolific and well known designers based in the Middle East, Ayesha has the proud distinction of being Indian, with a truly global appeal.
Her show in Delhi was met with rapturous applause, and watched over by such fashion heavyweights as Didier Grumbach, director of the Chambre Syndicale de la Mode in Paris and Anna Orsini of London Fashion week. The front row read like a who’s who of the fashion and film world, with pride of place taken by film directors Karan Johar and Madhur Bandharkar, Hilary Alexander of the Daily Telegraph, Shweta Bachan, designers Ritu Kumar, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Surily Goel and Rizwan Baig.

The Collection: This Royal inspired Fall Winter 2007 collection is all about the blend of textures, luxurious fabrics, and striking, plush embroidery. Deep, rich colours such as bordeaux, purple, royal blue, ivory and black are beautifully presented in pure silk, velvet and tulle. The collection is peppered with bursts of intricately embroidered emblems and motifs, reminiscent of European Elizabethan royalty. This collection is one of volume and proportions. Faintly metallic embroidery in silver and dull gold as well as beading provide the sparkling accents in the collection. Dresses and gowns are the mainstay of the
collection, and full tops are paired with stockings and leggings and form fitting skirts for a dramatic, yet classic effect.

GRAZIA Style Awards: Ayesha Depala wins Runner Up accolade in “Best Designer Brand ( Clothes)” category

May 2nd 2007: In an international internet vote for the Grazia Style Awards held yesterday at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Dubai, designer Ayesha Depala was awarded the prestigious position of Runner Up in the “Best Designer Brand (Clothes)” category, beating such international giants of the fashion industry like Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni, Ralph Lauren, Diane Von Furstenberg, Dolce and Gabbana , Elie Saab and many others.

“Just to be nominated with all these amazing names is just amazing! I feel so honoured and overwhelmed!” said Ayesha Depala when asked about how she felt about beating all these incredible stars of fashion.

This accolade, which is unprecedented in that no Indian designer before this has been included in a category with such an array international giants, is testament to the fact that this talented designer has made a huge mark in the fashion industry in the recent years, and she has become one of the most prolific designers to come from this region. Ayesha Depala’s designs are sought after by some of the world’s leading socialites and style mavens, and she counts many members of Middle Eastern Royalty as her clients.

Ayesha’s stunning boutique in the Village Mall in Dubai has become the “go to” place for the fashion cognoscenti, not only from the Middle East, but from all over the world.
Having been lauded by such international style bibles like Harpers Bazaar, Grazia, Hello!, OK! WGSN, Time Out, and The Daily Telegraph amongst others, Ayesha Depala seems to have well and truly arrived, and proudly flies the flag for Indian fashion in the international arena

The Boutiques:
The newly renovated boutique is located at the Ambawata Centre, New Delhi. The interiors reflect the designer’s design philosophy of elegant, timeless style, and provide a
stunning and luxurious backdrop for her clothes. Hand crafted silk mannequins and perfumed candles accessorise the space, and create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.
The Dubai boutique, which opened last May at the Village Mall in Jumeirah, is an equally elegant space, boasting crystal chandeliers, luxurious lace panels and plush furniture, creating the perfect canvas to showcase the ready to wear, couture and the haute couture bridal service.

LYCRA Rendezvous 2007 Jattinn Kochhar & Deepika Govind
INVISTA ‘xfit lycra® fabric’ and ‘black lycra® fiber’ Brands Are showcased at Lycra® rendezvous ‘07

Leading designers Jattinn Kocchar, Deepika Govind and prominent international and domestic apparel brands

NEW DELHI, 7 JUNE, 2007: LYCRA® Rendezvous, the international LYCRA® brand that has emerged as the vital source for both trends and innovations for the fashion fraternity worldwide, today showcased latest fabric offerings defining fashion for the apparel industry, along with fashion presentations from leading designers, apparel brands and design houses at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. The event featured participation from leading textiles mills from India and Europe, international experts from INVISTA, retail brands as well as prominent designers.
The event saw brands by INVISTA including XFIT LYCRA® fabric and BLACK LYCRA® fiber, which intend to revolutionise fashion outlook for denim and intimate apparel market. Martin Szeto, Asia Pacific export marketing director, INVISTA Apparel, offered insights into XFIT LYCRA ® fabric, the latest in denim innovation from the LYCRA ® brand, which is a patented cross-weave technology that allows 360 degrees movement. It also offers excellent fabric stability and great shape retention with great recovery. All these allow the wearer to move in every way that they do.

"We expect the XFIT LYCRA® brand to change the landscape of denim with its next generation look and feel. It provides a wider fit to accommodate more diverse body types, giving the wearer a flattering alluring shape," said Martin Szeto. "The new sculpting technique also helps give jeans lasting good looks because of the improved shape memory, while looking and feeling like authentic denim."

Mr. Satish Khurana, regional director, INVISTA Apparel, South Asia, said, "The LYCRA® brand has a track record for introducing innovations that have inspired the fashion industry worldwide. We’re excited to have this opportunity to showcase our innovations and convey the power and potential of the LYCRA® brand. This annual rendezvous with our preferred customers – mills, designers, retail brands, export and buying houses, allows us to showcase a confluence of latest fabric products that are defining fashion, with leading designers translating the benefits and magic of the LYCRA® brand into exciting collections".

INVISTA also showcased BLACK LYCRA® fiber, a path breaking product for Intimate Apparel segment, for elegant and natural looking black and dark fabrics that help resist fading with washing. It represents a real breakthrough for lingerie and underwear designers. Black LYCRA fiber stays black, even after repeated wash cycles, thanks to its spun-dyed technology. It also reduces the ‘grin through shiny effect’ in dark fabric shades; a phenomenon which often jeopardises the evenness and intensity of colour.

The event also showcased LYCRA® fiber collections for leading international and domestic brands including Pepe Jeans, Park Avenue, Lee Cooper, Adidas, Reebok and Westwood Jeans.
LYCRA® Rendezvous also saw leading designers Deepika Govind and Jattinn Kocchar, unleash the magic of LYCRA® fiber on the ramp through a vibrant and colourful presentation of their LYCRA® fiber based creations.

LYCRA® Rendezvous featured an array of fabric innovations exhibited by leading mills from India and Italy that included, Arvind Mills Ltd.(Denim & Bottoms), Arvind Mills Ltd. (Knits & Shirtings), Birla VXL, Carvico Spa Italy, Balavigna Weaving Mills Pvt. Ltd., Banswara Syntex, Euro Jersey, K.G.Denim Ltd, Raymond UCO Denim, Vardhman Spinning, Pratibha Syntex and Bonjour International.

The event saw extensive participation from the entire fashion value chain including export and buying houses, sourcing and merchandising professionals, designers, apparel brands across categories and trade and consumer media amongst others.

Ritu Kumar (Fashion Show) - Incredible India@60! at New York

Ritu Kumar Participates in the Celebrations of 60 years of the Indian Independence in New York

Ritu Kumar Participates in the Celebrations of 60 years of the Indian Independence in New York
Ritu Kumar one of India’s foremost designers created waves at New York where she participated in Incredible India@60! Held from 24th to 27th September the show celebrated India’s arrival at the 60th milestone and the spirit of India, replete with fascinating cultural fare, fashion shows, celebrity evenings, intellectual stimulation, CEO sessions, business conferences, introspective debates and discussions, and– certainly - food for thought!

Ritu Kumar is a designer, who over the years has established a unique handwriting of her own. Her work is contemporary to India and comes from a deep involvement in an indigenous experience. And this is why Ritu Kumar is one of the three designers (Raghuvendra Rathore & Wendell Rodricks) who were invited to participate in this incredible kaleidoscope of an event.

Ritu Kumar showcased a collection from the prĂȘt and diffusion Ritu Kumar line, Label on the 22nd and 24th September at Bryant Park, the prestigious venue which hosts the New York fashion week. The show opened with a khadi collection, showcased by 10 Indian and 6 international models to the tunes of Ma Tujhe Salaam by A.R. Rehman. This collection was followed by a contemporary line in camouflage, with kangra miniature t-shirts, dhoti trousers and an Asian western synthesis. A hand crafted crochet and handloom collection followed to bring in a soft mood, followed by bright printed airy collections which will give way to coats, rich skirts and more macho looks taking their influence from the north western frontier province.

The textile motifs of Rajasthan, the flashy bandhinis and tie-and-dyes, sublime hand-worked chikan outfits and a block-printed range will present ethnic India. A touch of the contemporary will be a black evening line with “skirts, blouses and cocktail glamour.” It will sign off with the eternal sari.

A black cocktail line followed with minimal embroideries done in the stitches of Kutch with its shiny mirrors reflecting the Indian aesthetic in ornamentation. The finale show set the mood with bridal finery in the true tradition of India. A young fun collection with music sources from vocal and instrumental Indian and western sensibilities with old Hindi songs were strung together to create a reminiscent mood.

While in New York, Ritu Kumar also had an exclusive showing for her couture collection at the Cipriani Palace at an exclusive dinner hosted by Dr Henry Kissinger, Dr Madeline Albright, Secretary William Cohen, Nandan Nilekani, Sunil Bharti Mittal and Tarun Das on September 23, 2007. This event was part of the celebrations of Incredible India @ 60 to rejoice with friends and well wishers who have partnered India on the journey to growth and development.
The shows were about how we lead our lives in India. The couture collection was watched by the likes of Henry Kissinger, Madeleine Albright and William Cohen.

The show opened with a panoramic look at the textile motifs and influences of the desert regions of Rajasthan with its myriad coloured bandhnis and vibrant tie and dyes. This burst of colour was followed by the quintessential beauty of the hand worked chikan outfits which have been painstakingly created in the homes of the Lucknow craftspeople.

An exclusive collection based on hand block printing and the curling vine, our ambi or paisley followed in this textile journey which turned into a black evening line of skirts blouses and cocktail glamour. The finale consisted of work researched from the hand-woven brocades of Benaras, contemporized to add the touch of dash to the eternal sari.
The finale was a kaleidoscope of colour technique as Ritu showcased India in its exotic best, with lehngas and jamas, in intricately embroidered, painstakingly executed ensembles, modeled to the strains of Amir Khusrus -- To saay naina miliay ke --. A befitting tribute to India and its vibrant indigenous fashion handwriting.

The event, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries. New York got to see all of it.

“Fashion is looking at a much younger person now. One has to be open to the requirements of the younger generation,” she says, adding her “Label” line focuses on contemporary clothing. In an industry where “finding thy market” is the key, when most designers are caught between the lure of the international market and the reality of the domestic one, Kumar rationalises,

“This country confuses everybody. If the rest of the world has more or less one fashion, India presents a layered market. It gives you too much choice. For example, the sari is never out of fashion.

Poonam Bhagat - Taika - WLIFW S/S 2007-08 'Sep

TAIKA by Poonam Bhagat
Take a sprig of twine , a spool of yarn and a leaf of natural fibre – throw it all in a bubbling clauldron of burnt earthen hues and stir with passion , add a glitter of burnished gold and a shimmer of antique silver , let the moonbeams dance along the wooden spatula while you stir and watch TAIKA emerge .

TAIKA , a Finnish word for “magic” , has , for over 16 years cast its own spell on women using pure natural fabrics by taking on myriad shapes to flatter and enhance the female form .
Tonal or stark but minimal embroideries , intricate surface texturing , quilting and appliqué with emphasis on styling and detailing is essential. A smattering of matt sequins is used for highlighting the garment when necessary. A nice vintage look is created for formals and a hip retro look for casuals.

Empire line dresses , sheath dresses , tunics with wide band collars , kaftan dresses and jackets in eggplant , burgundy and black handwoven tussar silks vie with each other for attention .
A range of jackets in contrasting vibrant silks , quilted and appliquéd , titillate and tease along side the more conservative and classic Churidar-kurtas and the quintessential Indian ensemble , the Sari.

Black and burgundy chanderi silks flirt with ivory peek- a – boo abstract motifs in dresses , tunics and skirts in the ‘Cherries on Coal’ collection.

Silks in rich emerald and turquoise hues balloon and gather in high waisted dresses and skirts with tonal polkas and swirls or jewel like dull pewter and bronze embroideries reinvent themselves in the “jewel Silk and Aquamarine silk” collections.

Ivory matka silks with black thread embroidery tell a “fishy” tale complemented with ochre and lavender. Black flirts with ivory and olive matka silks to tell its own fish and foul stories along with nature in the “Pearls on Coal” collection , boasting of knee length skirts, empire line and kaftan dresses and tunics .

Georgettes tie-dyed in earthy colors of rusts , burgundies , olives and browns , limes and forest greens with the quintessential black , printed and embroidered with tribal motifs inspired from the Mola tribes of Panama translate into sarees and dresses which sing an ode to femininity.
Bronze, copper and pewter tissue appliqués on chanderis form a lattice like pattern on elegant Churidar-Kurtas with crinkled silk stoles.

Ash linen trench coats , jackets , sheath dresses and pencil skirts are evocative of the “Retro” look with black geometric circular and striped motifs –embroidered and patched .
Soft georgette tunics in slate-pink , wedgewood blue , sage , ash and brown sparkle ,shine and shimmer iridescently with delicate borders of dull gold and pewter sequins scattered like “Stardust” .

And so TAIKA works its magic on discerning buyers as we sell from
various upmarket designer stores in Chennai , Kolkatta , Bangalore , Hyderabad , Mumbai and Delhi besides making forays into stores in West Palm Beach , Florida , Manhattan and Tokyo.

Aparna & Norden Wangdi’s “Back to Neverneverland “ Spring – Summer Collection 2008

Aparna & Norden Wangdi’s “Back to Neverneverland “
Spring – Summer Collection 2008

At The Chakraas, Samrat Hotel- 12 noon onwards, August 18, 2007
On August 18th 2007, Aparna & Norden Wangdi will showcase their latest collection “Back to Neverneverland” at The Chakraas, Samrat Hotel. Creating magic with their designs, Aparna & Norden Wangdi’s new collection Inspired by the omnipresent rag doll, the stuffed creature with the silly grin and wool for hair, the collection is a magical journey through childhood with its boogeymen and angels. With the ease of the infancy and the maturity of the adolescence, the collection is the utmost epitome of creativity.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Nostalgia is the keyword of the collection which will transport you to the best and the most memorable phase of your life. Drawing inspiration from the omnipresent rag doll, the stuffed creature with the silly grin and wool for hair, the collection is a magical journey through childhood with its cackles and cries. It is about that time in the life when your will was reason enough for you to do what you wished with no thought of what you should or should not do.
Colour defines the temperament of attire, hence the right colour is essential to bring out the feel of the outfit and in turn the entire collection. Keeping this dictum in mind, the designer duo has designed their range comprising of bright, dazzling upbeat colours of the likes of reds, pinks, oranges, sunny yellows, greens, splattered with blacks, whites and browns to infuse the collection with vibrancy.

With the playful silhouettes of short dresses, loose tops, trousers, skirts and overskirts, the collection runs amok in its vibrant colors. Layering, frills, buttons and laces are details which run through the collection in its clothes, bags and shoes. Patchworks of rag dolls with the vacant smiles on their faces, hand embroideries, smocking, hand quilting and gathering all intensify the free spirit of the age where the rag doll was your best friend.

ABOUT THE DESIGNERS

Both Aparna and Norden share a common background in the renowned NIFT, New Delhi, where they honed their early skills. After graduation it wasn’t long before they realized their dream of setting up a design studio of their very own.

Freefalling came into being in 1999, marking the culmination of their joint sojourn across a multitude of fields. The duo undertook contrasting routes in their quest to gather expertise and knowledge. Norden chose to head overseas for a first hand experience in the USA, acquainting himself in the areas of manufacturing, exports, fabrics, dyeing, printing and merchandising. Aparna, on the other hand, set about refining her skills in design in theatre, product and interiors, which proved invaluable in defining the standards of their eventual label.

The powerhouse of talent that Aparna and Norden represent is not restricted to the confines of the fashion industry. They have also extended their design expertise to a number of resorts, restaurants and stores. A noteworthy foray has been in theatre for costume design in the Indo-French opera production, The Fakir of Benaras, with a cast of hundreds.

In summing up their numerous achievements, it can be said that Norden’s flair for coordination and administration perfectly complements Aparna’s artistry and vision. The stupendous success of Freefalling stands testimony to their combined ability to inspire awe and admiration.

BBB Bread & Butter Barcelona 4-6 July 2007

The “tradeshow for selected brands” welcomed more than 91.000 trade visitors from all over the world in the Catalan capital.Full house! BREAD & butter defied all laws of expectancy with the BBBarcelona July 2007 and, despite the usual summer slowdown, was able to increase impressively: in comparison to July 2006, 50% more international trade visitors came to the “tradeshow for selected brands” held in the Catalan capital, and even in comparison to this years’ winter event in January, BBBarcelona was able to report a 10% visitor increase!Everywhere you looked, only pleased faces: the large visitor crowd in no way affected the situation at the entrances – everything remained relaxed. Karl-Heinz MĂŒller: “To invest in the ACTIVE GUEST MANAGEMENT was one of the best ideas we had. Our guests were able to gain access to the grounds easily and quickly, and, as a result, use their time efficiently.” Only shortly after the event was opened, the exhibitors enjoyed a tremendously high visitor frequency at their stands.Concentrating on Barcelona as the single B&b tradeshow venue in Europe proved a good move for all sides: more visitors came from the various countries, and also the general internationality (of the event) was higher than in Winter 2007. In addition to the Spanish visitors, the BBBarcelona recorded 65% international visitorsfrom 99 nations.

The number of German visitors is especially noteworthy: almost 10% of the guests came from Germany, which, in comparison to July 2006 indicates an increase of 68%. In general, noticeably more visitors from non-European countries came: such as, for instance, 50% more Russian visitors. Japan, too, showed considerable growth. Also the presence of the international press is worth mentioning: BBBarcelona was host to more than 3000 media representatives from all over the world.

The tradeshow had much to offer: shows by Custo, Ed Hardy, Freesoul, G-Star, Pepe and the graduates of the Escuela Superior de Moda y DisenÐo Felicidad Duce in Barcelona, special events by, for example, Havaianas, Marc Ecko, Timezone and Wrangler as well as the exhibition of the “7th letter crew”. The STUDIO.V set new quality standards with its new designers, more than 40 international collections and a monumental show. The Boss company also came to Barcelona and presented the Boss Orange line to the international audience on Friday evening at the Torero arena „Plaza de toros Monumental de Barcelona”. To top it all off, BREAD & butter hosted the Closing Party at “La Caseta” – here, the B&b crew and their guests celebrated three successful tradeshow days at the beautiful outdoor location with its magnificent view over the harbor of Barcelona.

For the next BBBarcelona which will take place from January 16 – 18, 2008, B&b plans to expand considerably: the January event will include the halls 6 and 7, the Mies van der Rohe Pavillon and the Palao Nacional as well as the entire outdoor area above the existing grounds. Karl-Heinz MĂŒller: “We can imagine providing the STUDIO and the BB.DESIGN with an adequate home by locating both in the graceful Palao Nacional. We would like to use the Mies van der Rohe Pavillon – in my opinion the most beautiful building in the world – for exhibitions which would fit the tone set of this beautiful edifice or for the launch of a high-quality brand. For the outside premises we can envision grand displays or installations. Besides, more and more brands are interested in also presenting themselves outside the halls – through the expansion of the grounds we are able to meet their needs.”

Moreover, BREAD & butter will launch BREAD & BUTTER SOURCING in January 2008. Karl-Heinz MĂŒller: “BBBarcelona is the largest and most important European tradeshow for denim, urban wear and sportswear. Both in January and in July, the entire industry meets in Barcelona and uses the tradeshow as a communication platform. Also, textile producers and other closely-related sectors come to Barcelona to establish the first contact and consultations with their partners. And so it is only consequent to integrate the precursory elements into the BBBarcelona. Even now, this July, the established Denim Mill “Ortanadolu” from Turkey as well as the “Interwashing Group” from Italy were present as exhibitors. A second time participator was the renowned Laundry Martelli in the Hotel Fira Palace not far from the fairgrounds. All were well-pleased with the response.

Karl-Heinz MĂŒller continues: “Our intent was well-received by the representatives of the relevant areas. BREAD & BUTTER SOURCING will take place in hall 6, above the known grounds. Here, we envision textiles, ingredients, laundries, finishing, as well as all relevant preliminary sectors.” According to the B&b strategy, the firms will be carefully selected inernationally. K.-H. MĂŒller: “We focus on the best in each sector and can foresee approximately 100 exhibitors. We will be able, for instance, to consider a maximum of 8-10 established Denim fabricants. Basically, it is important to us that the companies appreciate and respect each other.”

Karl-Heinz MĂŒller further: “The existing grounds are bursting at the seams. To efficiently facilitate all existing potential, we simply need more space and place. The potential in the high-value sportswear sector is far from being exhausted. Expanding the grounds offers great possibilities, which we intend to utilize without loosing sight of quality – quantitative growth was never our interest.”

You have good reason to look forward to 2008, when the “tradeshow for selected brands”, from January 16 – 18, summons you once again to the Catalan capital. Karl-Heinz MĂŒller concludes: “The BBBarcelona is a MUST for all professionals of the sector, and not merely in order to see the upcoming collections – BBBarcelona is a “Fashion Festival”, where lifestyle and trends are made to come alive – and so offers an inexhaustible source of inspiration.” July 2007

Rome Fashion Week

Neeta Lulla and Pria Kataria Puri showcased their autumn winter collection at Rome Fashion Week

July 9-13, 2007

Noted designers, Neeta Lulla and Pria K Puri have been invited to showcase their Autumn-winter collection at the Rome fashion week this July. The designers have been selected after LFW Advisory Board’s decision by Alta Roma, the institution that promotes Rome’s culture on the international fashion scene.

Obviously, such a selection wouldn’t have been figured if these designers hadn’t been well received with their work at the LFW Autumn-winter 2007. Says Pria K Puri, designer and winner of Bharat Yuv Ratna and Bharat Vikas awards for designing women’s wear, “My business has tripled since LFW. I had orders from various Indian and five international buyers – two of them from Middle east; I have also started retailing at stores like Amara, Aza and Kimaya. And I’m in talks with an agent in Paris!” While Pria can’t stop gushing about her achievements, Neeta is much sober in her acceptance. She says, “It felt really good that my collection was very received and the response was brilliant. With just my first fashion week ever, being invited to showcase in Rome is quite a high!”

So, what are their collections going to be about? Both designers will be presenting their LFW collections but with a little more winter-appropriate wear. “For Indian audiences, with Turkish Delights, I concentrated more on autumn, than on winter. Though I’ll be taking a few outfits from my LFW collection, I’ll be adding a few more outfits that will befit the winter expectations in Europe,” says Pria. Neeta seconds this, “My collection will be an extension of the LFW Female infanticide collection. Since the concept was well received and of course, it is really close to my heart, I want to take it forward to Rome. I’ll be adding a few outfits to the collection.”

While this isn’t the first time that Indian designers are going to Rome, this is definitely going to be one thing to look out for.

Neeta Lulla and Pria Kataria Puri showcased their autumn winter collection at Rome Fashion Week scheduled from July 9-13, 2007 in Rome. The designers are selected based on the decision made by the Lakme Fashion Week [LFW] Advisory Board, enabling Lakme Fashion Week to integrate India into the global fashion world.

Pria Kataria Puri will be showcasing an extension of her LFW collection. "At LFW, I showcased more of fall, and less winter. There were light fabrics and no woolens or velvets. In Rome, the concentration would be on winter wear. There will be a lot of cocktail dresses, jackets and coats as winter in Europe is synonymous with Christmas and New Year festivities. I used some interesting prints in my 'Turkish Delight' collection at LFW; I plan to carry that forward into this collection with some new styling elements," she reveals. "My expectations from Rome Fashion Week are business and exposure. I do not know if it will generate immediate business or take its time but the collection would create an awareness of our product."

Neeta Lulla plans to showcase her fall winter collection in Rome. Playing with prints from Rajasthan and Punjab, color flirts with cut and design. The garments bear an Indian influence aesthetically proven with the fabrics etched in carvings [cutwork, quilting, colors and embroidery] while the silhouettes give it a global appeal. "It is a good platform to be seen at various fashion weeks, especially on international shores. LFW plays a pivotal role in taking Indian designers to international markets; indeed a commendable effort", she enthuses.

Announcing their participation, Anil Chopra, VP Lakme Lever said, "The global cross-over with LFW and Alta Roma is an initiative towards providing an attractive platform for designers. As part of this initiative, Italian designer Giovanni Cavagna showcased his winter collection at LFW last season." According to Consuelo Aranyi, Alta Roma, "Alta Roma plays an important role in promoting the "Made in Italy" brand world over. With this exchange program, Italy and India will witness an excellent exchange of talent and creativity."

LFW witnessed the first of its exchange program with PrĂȘt a Porter, where as part of this fashionable business association, designers from Parisian fashion house Leonard Paris and French designer Nathalie Garcon showcased on the runways of LFW Spring Summer 2007. As a part of this exchange program, Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Wendell Rodricks will present on the runways of PAPP in September 2007.
